Laminate flooring is available in a wide range of styles. From the slate effect to stone tiles and classic wood laminate, there is a great flooring option to match the intended look and feel. Here are a few of the most popular laminate flooring types:

Oak

Solid oak flooring is certain to be a very appealing option for the home and easily complements most styles of decor. However, it is an extremely expensive option and also needs a lot of ongoing maintenance. Alternatively, the oak laminate flooring is a practical substitution to give the stunning look of real oak and is much more affordable, especially if laying the laminate in a large area. Plus, this type of flooring is easy to maintain.

Walnut

The walnut laminate is atmospheric and dark to help create the perfect ambiance in the home. The laminate can be made to look much like real wood with its unique grain and knot detail. The natural dark color means a room is given a neutral base for greater freedom to decorate and style the walls and furnishing. Also, it helps to add a touch of warmth to a room which makes it a practical choice for the bedroom.

There are many advantages associated with laminate flooring, which makes this a very popular option for flooring. It is a flooring that can easily be installed, it is not expensive, and it is very durable. The one disadvantage with this type of flooring is that you need to be very careful when you clean it. Laminate flooring planks consist of layers of fiber and wood, and then the floor’s surface has been sealed with a protective coating. It is this coating that gives the flooring its attractive shine. When you use a regular cleaner on the floor, you could damage the protective sealant. Any cleaning solution with ammonia or soap as an ingredient will leave streak marks behind on the surface of the floor and could cause the floor to lose its shine.

An effective method of cleaning it is to sweep and dry mop it. You can use a bristle or plastic broom for sweeping the loose debris and dirt from the surface of the floor. When you sweep the floor, make sure that you are moving the broom gently so you can avoid scratching the flooring from large sized granular dust particles, which could have sharp edges. The vacuum cleaner can be used instead of the broom. Make sure the beater bar is removed from the vacuum first. Once you have swept or vacuum the floor you can dry mop to rid of the rest of the dirt and dust from the laminate flooring. This dry mop has a disposable pad attached to a long stick. This type of dry mop can collect the finer dust particles still clinging to your floor. Move it gently over your floor and if it becomes soaked with dust change to a new clean pad.

If you are planning to install laminate flooring in your home, it is important that you know how to take care of it. This type of floor, also called floating wood tile, is very low maintenance, but it can become less attractive if you don’t care for it in the proper way.

Here are some laminate flooring care tips:

Sweep or Vacuum with a Microfiber Dust Mop

One of the best ways to take care of your laminate flooring is to use a microfiber dust mop. These mops are perfect for picking up dust and small crumbs that can gather in corners. You can also dampen a microfiber cloth and use it as a wet mop as well. These mops are soft and gentle and won’t cause streaks. String or sponge mops are notorious for causing unsightly streaks and marks on your floating wood tile, so it is best to avoid using those if possible.

Use a Gentle Cleaning Solution

When you are mopping the tile, be sure you are using a very gentle cleaning solution. Floating wood laminate tile can be cleaned with a simple combination of dish soap and warm water. You don’t need to use any specialized cleaners or solutions to provide a shiny finish. (more…)
