bathroom-remodelingMake-Over Mistakes That Downgrade Your Bathroom

Are you renovating your bathroom? Are you thinking of replacing your existing bathroom? Please do not make the awful mistakes some people have. Simple mistakes can lead to disaster.

Bathrooms and kitchens are rooms that are used by many people in the home and should be designed for function first, and style, second. Essentially, you should decorate a bathroom in a classic and neutral way, to keep it from dating, and to preserve the appeal, of your bathroom, for resale purposes.

1. Never Buy Cheap Fittings!

You’ve splurged on tiles, and a good quality bath, and now your budget is depleted, so, you opt for the more budget-friendly taps. Never do this. As a rule of thumb, you should over-budget by as much as 20% for a bathroom. It’s small room, but, highly functional, and in the long run, spending more, will pay you off tenfold.

When you look at reselling your home, you will deeply regret the cheaper fittings. Cheaper fittings will not last as long as more expensive, ones, either – invest in your fittings, and swap out the fancy flooring, for something that is a little less costly. It will pay you off, in the long term, to do this.

Function. Function. Function. You are going to spend a proverbial penny, quite often, and your bathroom ergonomics are very important. Ease of use, and the placement of your shower, bath, sink, toilet, and bidet, in relation to each other – is extremely significant.

A bathroom is a small room that must function at a high level, and if you do not have enough space – it can be a disaster. Imagine how uncomfortable you are going to be, trying to squeeze yourself into a tiny space, to spend your pennies.

Never compromise space, for style, or extra storage, when it comes to the essential function of a bathroom.

interior-decorating-winter-season5 Interior Design Tips to Turn a Summer Living Room Into a Winter One

While it may be nice to have a pretty, summery look in your living room during the hotter months and even into fall, there comes a point when you simply can’t deny that winter has set in.

The bright florals and light colors of summer need to go and it’s time to bring in the cozy feeling of a winter look. If you aren’t sure just how to do that, here are a few interior design tips for you.

1. Pay attention to color. We use color everywhere in our lives and it affects nearly everything we do. For the cooler months, darker, richer hues are ideal for creating a cozy, winter look in your living room. Rich browns, burgundies, dark greens and ochres are perfect for making it feel warmer inside, but you don’t have to run out and buy new furniture. Slip covers make it very simple to change the palette of a room, as do curtains.

Texture adds a lot of personality to a room and you can use as little or as much as you like, depending on your taste. This can mean anything from throwing a couple of warm fleece blankets over the back of the sofa or adding some fuzzy pillows to bringing out extra throw rugs and hanging up heavy oil paintings. Thicker curtains can also help warm a room.

Remodeling Tips for a Small Kitchen

small-kitchen-remodel8 Original Tips for Small Kitchen Remodeling

#1. Choose open cupboards

One of the biggest problems with small kitchens is that they might feel rather claustrophobic because there are too many cupboards stuffed into this limited space. Removing them is usually not an option, because there are many items that must be stored in the room. Open cupboards offer an efficient solution to this problem because they don’t create such a ‘boxed’ feeling. These storage areas also provide you with the opportunity to use fancy jars, glasses, and china as decorations.

#2. Add a kitchen island

Small kitchens don’t offer enough counter space to work on comfortably. A kitchen island can solve the problem of having a working surface, but such a major construction job will work only if the room’s design is minimalistic.

The counter of the piece must be white (preferably marble) and its bottom must be open. This way, the island won’t seem ‘cumbersome’.

Limited space doesn’t allow you much room for creating a beautiful interior. You can make up for this by mixing a variety of materials and playing on the differences in textures and colors. Every functional part of the room (cupboard doors, countertops, lighting, ceiling, windows, flooring, and fixtures) should be treated as an important element of design. Keep this in mind when studying the materials from your kitchen remodeling contractor and look for interesting combinations. Remember that in order to be attractive, the final look must be ‘unified’ in either color or style.
